Thought of shaping the future but baulk at the thought of starting from scratch? We have a history lesson to share.
Thanks to an interconnected world and rapid technological advances, as well as the innovative human nature, we have been ushered into an era where solutions keep cropping up to meet the demands and challenges on the horizon.
Navigating the Uncharted Waters
Think Uber, Dropbox, Airbnb, Ethereum. These platforms have revolutionised the landscape of online applications by offering ingenious, practical alternatives to modern society.
For most people now, Uber is an inexpensive and user-friendly replacement for taxi service; Dropbox represents a tool that serves the major functions of storage and sync, carving the niches that Google had not realised; Airbnb — an online marketplace and hospitality service — finds favor with hosts and guests alike, allowing the former to rent their properties/rooms out easily and the latter to seek affordable accommodation worldwide. Drawing upon blockchain technology and the notion of decentralisation, Ethereum has pioneered new ways of raising capital for businesses using ICOs, coming to over $7.3 billion in 2017/2018, despite being plagued by scamming activities at its maturing stage. It is also renowned for returning data to its owners and creative rights to its authors, taking corporate giants like Google and Apple out of the picture.
Replicating the Success
Creating an innovative solution is not as daunting a challenge as it is generally mystified to be. With that in mind, we’d like to invite you to create a movement for change — for the better.
If there is any observation you can draw from these shining examples, it is that nothing is exactly new. The ideas are a spin, big or small, on the existing systems or models. The accomplishment of the those companies also involves managing demand and supply savvily as well as leveraging the latest technology. Equally important, of course, is a network of talents committed to the same goal .
At this stage, it may still sound like a fairy tale to you, and we will admit it, building a start-up is never easy. But don’t lose heart just yet. We have compiled a list of key components typical of successful entrepreneurs. Check if you have what it takes to map out the future:
1. An eye for an opportunity & a great idea that you truly believe in
If you can see a unique opportunity others can’t see, good on ya! You might as well cash in on that and build a business out of it. But convince yourself that your grand plan works before you try to convince the others.
2. A continuously innovative and open mind
There are hungry hunters having eyes on your invention so keep innovating and adjusting the model that you might consider ‘perfect’ now.
3. An ear that listens to what users/customers want and/or need
You want to be relevant, or even better, competitive in the marketplace. Survey your audience, show them that you care and give them exactly what they are after.
4. A diligent, dedicated team & a supportive network
Teamwork is synonymous with a high level of efficiency and effectiveness. A team with various reserves of knowledge, toolkits and resources is also key to scoring achievements and overcoming challenges.
5. A handful of cash
A generous budget is always ideal. But if you are on a shoestring budget, keep your business lean. Getting yourself an investor who believes in your team might also be a good idea.
