20 years ago, I(Islam) was a teenager who could never get bored. I was always curious about the outside world. I started using the Internet earlier than most did. Back then, there was an online networking platform called “cChat（Comic Chat)” which connected me with like-minded people from all over the world.
I still vividly remember the fun times talking to other people in real-time online, and feeling inspired, supported every time I entered this community. This incredible experience has made me more open-minded and talkative. When I look back, I realise that it is this platform that has made me who I am.
When Social Networking Becomes Social Media…
The digital platform used to be more of a place for social networking back then. It was an enabler of communication and a source of inspiration and innovation. Sadly, that is long gone.
These days, most teens are on social media primarily because they are obsessed with being the centre of attention or do not want to be left out. Some might be genuinely interested in forming real connections but social platforms encourage discontinuous, skin-deep interaction, feature endless advertisements, and forgive trolling and cyberbullying.
Setting the Revolution in Motion
When I talked with my partner (Sandy) about these thoughts, she agreed that the younger generation is suffering due to the weakened communication and connections and we decided to do something about it — to unlock the true potential of youngsters.
We started with the idea of bringing back real-time social networking for them to spark new ideas and fuel the innovation process. This is achieved by connecting young intelligent people with global forward thinkers & disruptive thinkers. We believe that once they are exposed to a support network, they can be inspired, act on their passion fully utilizing their talent, and create something amazing and innovative.
How Ylemer Came into Being
The conversation and idea led us to start a business for social innovation — developing the first online global collaboration network that drives innovation, where innovative minds exchange information and knowledge. We named it “Ylemer”.
We aim to redirect young innovative minds’ energy and to spend time on discuss things that matter and allow young people to get noticed and shine.
Our mission is to connect people with a similar vision together, so that young people can share their knowledge and bounce ideas to share their purpose. They can meet and discuss with entrepreneurs in the tech space and leaders of innovation. By exchanging knowledge with worldwide influencers, the younger generation can realise their potential and ultimately pursue global solutions. We foresee more young innovative minds will lead to new creation and become a major part of the world solutions, and surprise us with what they can achieve.

Recently I have been learning about business management and business strategies. As a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, I am studying a double Diploma in Project Management and Leadership & Management, and working full-time as an IT Infrastructure Engineer at IBM/Shell.

I have over 10 years of work experience in business development, marketing, public relations and media. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communication, I went on to pursue the double Diploma of Hypno-Counselling, Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy to study about human’s brain and behaviour.
